About 82-0 Hockey

82-0 Hockey is a free browser game where you draft NHL legends into a six-player lineup and chase a perfect 82-0-0 season. Each spin gives you a random NHL team and era. You pick one player, place him in a real position, and your finished lineup earns an 82-game record — then faces THE GAUNTLET, a playoff ladder of four dynasty teams.

Is 82-0 Hockey free?

Yes. 82-0 Hockey is completely free, runs in any browser at playhockeyiq.com, and requires no account, login, or download.

Can you actually go 82-0?

Yes, but it is rare. A perfect 82-0-0 season requires a team rating of 99 or higher. In simulations, fewer than 1 in 200 well-drafted lineups reach it.

What is Blind Mode?

Blind Mode hides every player rating until after you place each player. It tests real hockey knowledge — you must know that Jari Kurri is elite without seeing his numbers. Regular Mode shows all ratings and plays as pure strategy.

Which NHL legends and teams are included?

The game includes 48 era-team combinations and 361 unique NHL legends spanning the 1960s Original Six era to the 2020s — from Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, and Jean Béliveau through Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux to Connor McDavid and Cale Makar. Browse every roster on the era-team index.

What is THE GAUNTLET?

THE GAUNTLET is the playoff mode: a fixed ladder of four dynasty teams — the 1980s Islanders, 1990s Penguins, 1970s Canadiens, and 1980s Oilers — played as best-of-7 series. Every player faces the same ladder, and the same lineup always produces the same playoff run. Winning all four series wins the Stanley Cup; doing it with an 82-0-0 season earns THE IMMORTALS.
